Bronchitis Pneumonia – Avoiding Bronchitis and Pneumonia

Knowing as much as possible about bronchitis and pneumonia can help you more than any medication. “An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure”, as they say. Gathering information about the illnesses will allow you to take the right steps in order to avoid it.

First of all, you need to consider the difference between the two diseases. Bronchitis causes your bronchi, or the tube that carries air from your lungs to your windpipe.

The illness causes the bronchi to be less effective in filtering out debris and thus, causing them to be irritated and begin producing mucus, which in turn causes people to develop a cough.

There are actually two types of Bronchitis: Acute and Chronic. Acute Bronchitis may go away after a few days of home treatment, but chronic bronchitis requires you to seek medical attention immediately, or it could get very serious.

Pneumonia, on the other hand, can be much more serious. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. In this infection, the lungs get fill with pus, restricting the flow of oxygen to your brain.

In fact, the infection could even get bad enough to the point that the oxygen flow would be cut off completely and leave a person dead.

Bronchitis and Pneumonia are indeed no laughing matter.

In order to help you prevent both diseases, you need to stay away from factors that could lead to their development. Cold, dry air is one of those factors, so try not to turn the air conditioner on too high.

A more important factor to consider is smoking. Cigarettes do unbelievable damage to your lungs and leave them highly susceptible to infection leading to Bronchitis and Pneumonia.

If you do suspect that you have contracted bronchitis or pneumonia, then you should get medical attention immediately. As said before, these illnesses can be deadly. However, early detection and treatment can definitely help you recover from the illness swiftly.

Just make sure that you take all steps to live healthy and prevent acquiring the diseases first. After all, there not much you have to do in order to keep the illnesses at bay.

I have been diagnosed with bronchitis, which started within the last two years. Never had it before I started working at this clinic. The air vents at my job site are thick with dust and there is something black (mold?) on the ceilings around the air vents. Could this have something to do with why I have bronchitis now?

I currrently have bronchitis now and went to the doctor because I wanted to make sure that I did not have pneumonia. He did not do a chest x-ray, he just gave me some antibiotics, which is not working as far as I can see. I have been out of work for 4 days now. I have been coughing up phlegm for over a month, with burning chest and throat pain, along with flank pain on both sides.
I would just like some answers, my doctor does not seem to be very helpful.

    Hello,

Have you been given a blood test and allergy test for asthma. Some people who do have Bronchitis do have the asthma (seasonal). I have my asthma well controlled but when the stressors are right and a virus comes around, I do get Bronchitis for weeks. I have had Bronchitis so bad that I was in bed for a month. Wheezing and fever was not nice. A round of steroids, antibotics plus, advair is the treatment. Over the countner Mucus Relief DM(Guaifensin 400mg, Dextromethorphan HBr 20mg) is a safe way to get rid of the nasty stuff. My asthma specialist says honey and tea is the best. I agree. I have lived with asthma/ bronchitis since the age of 2. It is a lifestyle change to bring all symtoms under control. Good luck,
